Vladimír Weiss will combine his role as coach of Slovakia with the top job at ŠK Slovan Bratislava after Karel Jarolím left the club on Friday.
Weiss, 46, will be in charge of the Slovakian titleholders − who are in fourth place after three games of the new season − when they host FC Spartak Trnava on Sunday. He replaces Jarolím, who announced his departure following Slovan's 2-0 aggregate defeat by APOEL FC in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round this week.
As well as having club matters to focus on, Weiss is also preparing for Slovakia's friendly with Austria on Wednesday and a vital UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland on 2 September. Ireland, Slovakia and Russia are level on 13 points at the top of Group B with four games remaining.
