Two of the key men behind FC Internazionale Milano's treble-winning 2009/10 campaign, captain Javier Zanetti and UEFA Champions League final hero Diego Milito, have signed new contracts.
Zanetti, who turns 37 on Tuesday, has agreed a new two-year deal while striker Milito has extended his arrangement by 12 months until 2014. Inter president Massimo Moratti's first signing in 1995, former CA Banfield midfielder Zanetti made his 700th Inter appearance in the 2-0 win against FC Bayern München in Madrid that added the European title to the Nerazzurri's Serie A and Coppa Italia triumphs. He is now within 15 of Giuseppe Bergomi's record of 519 top-flight games for the club.
Zanetti's fellow Argentinian, Milito, has extended his contract after a spectacular first season following his move from Genoa CFC. The 31-year-old scored 22 times in 35 Serie A matches, finding the net in the 1-0 victory at AC Siena that gave Inter the Scudetto as well as hitting the winner in the 1-0 Coppa Italia final success against AS Roma and both goals to defeat Bayern.
"You always find motivation, there are more trophies to win next season," Zanetti told UEFA.com immediately after the final in Madrid. He has the chance to lift two more pieces of silverware this month as Inter face Roma on 21 August for the Italian Super Cup and Club Atlético de Madrid six days later in Monaco for the UEFA Super Cup. Their UEFA Champions League defence under new coach Rafael Benítez begins in the group stage.
